staffing committee
In 2019, a committee was formed to research EMS staffing solutions for the department. In 2020, KVFD presented the Town of Kent Board of Selectmen with a request for supplemental funding in order to hire an EMS staffing agency to fill open shifts not able to be filled by the members of the department. The townspeople approved this additional funding and in February 2021, KVFD contracted with Emergency Resource Management to hire certified EMTs to fill open shifts. This funding enabled the continuation of 24/7/365 pre-hospital care delivery required in our community.
In 2022, the worldwide pandemic continued to impact our responders, and KVFD leadership recognized the need to continue to look at new staffing models for both EMS and Fire.
charge | Complete a comprehensive review of the current Kent Volunteer Fire Department staffing model, research best practice options moving forward for (EMS and fire) staffing, and present an action plan to the Department for possible adoption. If and when a proposal is adopted by the Department, the committee is tasked to complete implementation of the action plan.
